May 21, 2013

Dear Hellenic Cultural Society Members,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as your newly elected President.  I have served on the Board of Directors of the Society for several years and have hosted many past events including co-hosting two Hellenic Balls in 2008 and 2012. I am excited about the Society’s future and look forward to creating new dreams and accomplishing new goals as our Hellenic Cultural Society begins its 48th year of existence.

Many of us are familiar with the history of  how our Society was created. In 1965, several pioneers got together on a Sunday afternoon after church and planted the seeds, thus creating this dynamic organization to “Preserve and Promote our Hellenic Culture for future Generations”.

So began the journey of our Society. In August of 1974, under the foresight of then President George S. Marinos our organization obtained its corporate charter and our society continued to grow. Then, in 1989, President Marinos left office and President George D. Koulaxes became a guiding force until recently in April, 2013. We owe a great debt to both these founders and past-presidents who have given us their vision, their guidance and who continue to carry the torch of enlightenment for all Hellenes and Phil-Hellenes! Thank you for all that you have done.

Our society has become a dynamic organization in promoting and preserving our Hellenic Heritage…and we’ve only just begun! I would like to encourage all members to participate in building a stronger more vibrant Society. Please go to our website (hellenic-culture.org) or our Facebook Page at Hellenic Cultural Society of San Diego to view photos, upcoming events, lectures, movies and children programs. Sign up for email notices, or contact us at our email address; HellenicCulturalSociety@gmail.com.

As your new president, I look forward to many years working together because we are still on that journey of creating an even brighter future for the Hellenic Cultural Society of San Diego!

Best regards,

Alexia Koulaxes Anas, President
